From now on, the Hungarian authorities will forward plant product shipments to the destination country for physical inspection
In the case of plant products intended for food from third countries, the Hungarian authorities will no longer carry out physical checks in Hungary, but forward the shipments to the destination country. For this reason, when importing into the European Union, entrepreneurs must also specify the control point. Failure to provide data may result in a significant increase in administrative time.
The new control procedure applies to the importation into the Union of plant products intended for food from third countries under the scope of the implementing regulations (EU) 2019/1793 and (EU) 2020/1158. The specialists of the designated county plant and soil protection authority examine the documents, and then the shipments designated for physical examination – if they are not marketed in Hungary – are forwarded to the destination country.
Sampling and laboratory testing take place in the destination country
For smooth administration, it is important that the contractor responsible for the shipment in the TRACES system, in the Common Health Admission Documents (KEBO-D, in English: CHED-D) document, not only I.4. point, but also mark the designated control point (I.20) of the destination country. If this is not done, the authority will contact the contractor responsible for the shipment, which, however, can significantly increase the administration time of the delivery process. The shipment must be under continuous customs supervision during transmission. The Hungarian authorities request confirmation of its arrival from the destination country within 15 days.
