The milk and milk products consumption of the Hungarian adult population from the perspective of science and the consumers
We were taught in our childhood that milk is life, strength and health, because it is rich in vitamins and mineral sources, is also the most important source of calcium and it contains vitamin D, milk sugar and proteins.
We now know that not only milk, but also the high quality milk products – including yogurt, sour cream, kefir are playing a prominent role in a balanced and varied diet, and in healthy lifestyle – the press release of Ipsos, the National Food – and Nutrition Institite and the Hungarian Dairy Association.
In Hungary, the ideal annual per capita milk and milk products consumption – in milk equivalents – would be 260 to 270 kgs, while last year it was only 150 to 165 kgs, which represents a declining, stagnating trend. 60 to 65 liters per person is consumed from milk, which is 4/5 of the EU’s average consumption per capita.
