Activities in the black economy generated more than HUF 4,000 billion income

Last years Hungarian GDP was HUF 23,560 billion, from this 17-18 % could be generated in the black economy.

Hungary is to step up tax rigour in a bid to whiten the
economy, a Finance Ministry document obtained. The ministry plans to employ
more tax auditors and would leave it up to tax authority APEH to decide whether
a new company can start operating or not.
Activities in the black economy generated more than HUF 4,000 billion income
last year in Hungary. Unlawful activities – illegal work, VAT fraud and
smuggling – strip the budget of around HUF 1,000 billion a year.

The finance minister said one of the succes in the fight
against black economy is, that nowadays the illegal cigarette commerce is under
10%, two years before it was 30%.
