2026 is the year of construction in Hungarian agriculture, developments are starting one after another, which will mean jobs, a secure livelihood and a future in the Hungarian countryside – announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, at the laying of the foundation stone of the new poultry processing plant of Bát-Grill Kft. in Bátaszék.

At the event, the Minister drew attention to the fact that poultry meat is the most popular type of meat on the table of Hungarian families, and per capita consumption has exceeded 30 kilograms for years. Due to its favorable price and wide availability, the role of this product in domestic consumption will remain decisive in the future, and demand for it is constantly growing worldwide. He explained that the poultry sector, along with the pig sector, is one of the most competitive areas of Hungarian animal husbandry. Poultry meat accounts for more than half of the export revenue of meat products, so the development of the sector is in the national economic interest. The government aims to ensure that the already strong sector maintains its position in the global market competition, and this requires continuous investments and technological developments.

The minister pointed out that the government views the food industry as a strategic sector

Therefore, within the framework of the CAP Strategy, priority subsidies help the development of the processing industry and animal husbandry. Several calls for proposals have been published in the period until 2027, and 941 investments have received support under the ÉLIP so far, worth approximately 498 billion forints. The aim of the funds is to produce competitive products with higher added value from Hungarian raw materials, thereby strengthening the country’s food self-sufficiency. In the latest round of applications, more than 860 applications were received, with a funding requirement of 48 billion forints, and their assessment is currently underway.

István Nagy emphasized that the current investment fits well with these goals

The 100 percent Hungarian-owned Bát-Grill Baromfifeldolgozó Kft. has received a 5 billion forint grant under the Joint Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, which will enable a development worth nearly 13 billion forints. The investment will bring technological progress, increase competitiveness, and provide stable jobs in the region in the long term. The company, which employs more than two hundred people, is based entirely on domestic raw materials and its operations are ensured by long-term supplier relationships. After the developments of recent years, the current expansion is another significant step in the company’s development, he added.
