Positive trends in terms of both value and volume
General food stores’ revenue from pet food is more than HUF 40 billion a year. According to the Nielsen Retail Index, dog food (annual market: HUF 25 billion) value sales in general food stores augmented by 8 percent and volume sales grew by 2 percent in December 2011-May 2012. The 401-2,500m² retail channel realised 77 percent of sales – in the case of cat food this ratio was 65 percent. Cat food (annual market: HUF 16 billion) value sales were up 11 percent and volume sales gained 6 percent.
