Lidl customers help those in need with nearly 90 tons of food donations
The Hungarian Food Bank Association’s fundraising campaign held last Friday and Saturday was a great success, with Lidl joining in with over 100 stores nationwide. During the one and a half day collection, Lidl customers contributed nearly 90 tons of food – a third of all donations collected in the program – to help those in need in their area. The Food Bank will use the donations to create five-kilo packages for people and families in need, which will be distributed throughout the country until the start of the summer holidays.
Lidl Hungary has also joined the Hungarian Food Bank Association’s largest fundraising campaign to date, providing its customers with the opportunity to help in over 100 stores nationwide.
“The goal was to collect as much non-perishable food as possible for families living in need. We are very proud of the great solidarity we experienced from our customers, as thanks to their active participation and contributions, a total of 17,936 donation packages were able to reach the needy in their surroundings. We are also grateful to the volunteers and colleagues of the Food Bank for their work and support,”
– said Judit Tőzsér, the company’s communications manager.
The most popular donated product was pasta, followed by rice and flour, but there were also a lot of donations of canned goods and pasta sauces. The Food Bank will deliver the donated food to those in need in the coming days and weeks, in the form of 5-kilogram packages per person, with the cooperation of charitable organizations operating in the vicinity of the stores. The primary goal is to help the elderly, large families, and single-parent families, but recipients of family support services and children’s homes, people with disabilities, the homeless, and residents of the country’s most disadvantaged settlements will also benefit from the donations.
“We received a huge outpouring of help over the weekend! Donations poured into our collection points for two days, and what is most unusual is that the donors themselves often thanked us for the opportunity to help. So we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who became part of our collaboration. A pat on the back goes to the donors, our volunteers and Lidl employees. Of course, the tasks are far from over, as these many donations still need to be sorted, sorted and of course delivered to the beneficiaries. Of course, the latter will be the most uplifting part of the entire campaign. We can’t wait to see again how much joy these aid packages can bring”
– emphasized András Nagygyörgy, the Food Bank’s director of external relations.
