Lidl Germany’s sustainability manager spoke about changes affecting Hungary as well
Amali Bunter, head of sustainability at Lidl Germany, gave an interview to New Food Hub, where she spoke in detail about the company’s sustainability goals and the principles they stand for. Lidl Germany has ambitious plans for 2030, and to achieve these goals it uses the “Planetary Health Diet” principle, which emphasizes the protein transition for “net zero goals”.
Their commitment to sustainable nutrition is based on three main pillars: healthy nutrition, sustainable nutrition and consumer commitment. To this end, the company analyzed its current product range, paying special attention to the proportion of proteins of plant and animal origin.
One of the outstanding steps that Lidl took towards sustainability was the introduction of price parity. The prices of their Vemondo vegan product range have been adjusted to the prices of similar products of animal origin, thus encouraging conscious shopping and creating a level playing field for consumers.
The impact of the initiative was felt not only in Germany, but also on a European level, as other retail chains followed Lidl’s example. Kaufland, Aldi Süd, Penny and BILLA have all created different pricing initiatives in response to changing consumer needs.
