Lidl Hungary continues its pioneering initiative launched in 2023, according to which its stores will be closed nationwide on December 24, Christmas Eve. The aim of the decision is for the company to support all of its nearly 10,000 employees in spending the entire day with their loved ones, and on the other hand, as a market leader in food retail, to set an example and contribute to increasing the appreciation of commercial workers and creating a work-life balance.

As one of the market leaders in the commercial sector, Lidl decided for the first time two years ago to provide a day off for all its employees on Christmas Eve. With this step, the company not only expressed its gratitude and respect for its own employees, but also prioritized the interests of commercial workers within the sector. The positive reception is indicated by the fact that several other large retail chains have followed the initiative, thus confirming the importance of employee appreciation and a family-friendly attitude.

Zita Szlavikovics, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Lidl Hungary, highlighted: “Christmas Eve is the most intimate holiday for Hungarian families. As a responsible, ethical company and one of the largest employers in the country, we consider it particularly important that our employees can focus on Christmas Eve not on work obligations, but on calm preparation and time spent with their loved ones. Therefore, this year we will also provide them with a day off on December 24, which means that our stores will not open from December 24 to 26. We will also be open until 10:00 p.m. nationwide on December 23, so that they can be sure to get everything they need for the holidays, whether it’s food, gifts or even decoration. All this allows us to concentrate on the really important things the next day and celebrate peacefully with our loved ones.”

In the spirit of getting ready for Christmas and serving customer needs, Lidl has already launched its Christmas campaign, offering customers a wide, quality and affordable product range. The department store chain also helps with the choice with special catalogs, so that the festive atmosphere can be established Decorative catalog, the Deluxe catalog featuring gourmet specialties, and the Favorina catalog focusing on seasonal sweets are now available on the store chain’s website and in the Lidl Plus application, but many other items are also coming to the range, so it is worth constantly monitoring the current promotions. This year, the company encourages its customers to make Christmas better together and to preserve the spirit of the holiday season – kindness, thoughtfulness, and the importance of time spent together – every day of the year. Because experiencing moments like these is what makes life truly precious and what makes it truly worthwhile.
