Lidl is standardizing the price of its vegan and meat products
The German Lidl health product in order to unify the prices of vegan and meat products, but this change is not expected in Hungary for the time being. The reason for this is that the two markets cannot be compared due to differences in purchasing habits and purchasing power. Despite this, there are also vegan foods in Hungary that are available at the same price as their meat versions. The trend of health-conscious shopping can slowly but surely reach Hungary, not only in Lidl, but also in the case of Tesco, for example.
Germany’s Lidl recently announced that it will offer almost all of its own-brand plant-based food products at the same price as their meat-based “counterparts”. try the dist chain is trying to place vegan meat more on products to make it easier for customers. By standardizing the prices, I would like to encourage customers to try plant-based food, without the price being the deciding factor.
This step is also welcomed by the international organization ProVeg, which aims to reduce global meat consumption. Jasmijn de Boo, managing director of ProVeg, says price is an important factor in encouraging people to adopt a plant-based diet, especially in times of high inflation.
Livestock farming causes massive environmental destruction and is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and biodiversity loss. Experts from the UN and Oxford University recommend a radical reduction in global meat consumption in order to address environmental problems.
