Lidl opens its first chocolate factory
Lidl is opening its own chocolate factory in Übach-Palenberg near Aachen, Germany, Lebensmittel Zeitung reports.
According to the newspaper, Lidl is working with one of its suppliers, Ludwig Weinrich, on the manufacturing facility. In the beginning, the factory will only make the discounter’s Fin Carré economy brand, but later the plant will soon produce premium chocolates under the J D Gross brand, which is currently manufactured by Rausch.
Lidl is said to have a similar arrangement with soft drink and water supplier MEG (Mitteldeutsche Erfrischungsgetränke), which Lidl acquired in 2005.
