Lidl becomes a featured food chain partner of VEGANUÁR™ 2025
Lidl Hungary has become a featured food chain partner of VeganuárTM 2025. The one-month challenge to encourage people to try a vegan diet is in line with the goals of the supermarket chain, which is to encourage health-conscious and sustainable nutrition.
To this end, Lidl is continuously expanding the range of its own-brand vegan products and strives to offer them at a similar price to animal products. Moreover, the supermarket chain is offering several extra discounts in January to help customers try plant-based products cost-effectively. Lidl pays attention to all customer needs, and therefore helps its customers eat healthy all year round with a wide range of plant-based products that represent an excellent value for money ratio, with at least 150 fresh vegetable and fruit selections per week. The supermarket chain launched its own vegan brand, Vemondo, in 2020 with the aim of offering a wider alternative to vegans, vegetarians and customers who prefer plant-based products.
Since there is a growing demand for vegan products in our country, the supermarket chain offers a wide range of plant-based products: more than 60 permanent and seasonal products are available in the private label Vemondo vegan and vegetarian product line. A year ago, in January 2024, the supermarket chain began reducing the prices of these products so that customers can buy them at a similarly favorable price as animal products. In order to encourage health-conscious nutrition, the supermarket chain supports the Veganuár™ 2025 challenge and has become a featured food chain partner of the program.
VeganuárTM aims to encourage the consumption of plant-based foods due to their positive effects on health and the reduction of environmental impact. Lidl is also offering additional promotions to help customers try out plant-based products cost-effectively during VeganuárTM, so customers can also find additional discount coupons for vegan products on the Lidl Plus app. Moreover, during the month, customers who indicate in the app that they are interested in vegan products will receive two coupons for vegan products per week. According to scientific studies, plant-based protein sources generally require less land and water, and also cause lower GHG emissions, which results in a lower environmental impact overall compared to animal farming. For example, six to seven times more agricultural land is needed to produce 100 grams of animal protein than to produce 100 grams of soy protein.
