The Libri Group acquired Édesvíz Publishing House
The Libri Group has acquired Édesvíz Kiadó, the acquisition serves a strategic purpose, according to which the group strives for long-term stability through development and expansion.
The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed to MTI when contacted, citing business secrets.
Gyula Köbli, CEO of the Libri Group, pointed out in the announcement: one of the defining characteristics of the book market is that it competes with a wide range of leisure activities for the attention of readers.
In such an environment, he called it of paramount importance for the publisher to have a diverse, stable offering and to monitor trends in order to bring valuable content as close as possible to readers.
According to the announcement, Édesvíz Kiadó’s cooperation with the Libri Group provides a stable background for the portfolio of nearly 2,000 publications. Édesvíz is one of the most prominent publishers in the Hungarian book market, having published popular self-help, lifestyle, self-development and esoteric books since its founding in 1989. An important element of its publishing activity is the care of the Mária Szepes oeuvre.
Édesvíz operates its own bookstore and also has a webshop. According to publicly available company data, Édesvíz Kiadó Kft. achieved net sales revenue of 813 million forints in 2023, compared to 731 million forints in the previous year. The kft. had a loss of 13 million forints in 2023, compared to a pre-tax profit of 26 million forints in the previous year.
Libri indicated to MTI that the books of Édesvíz Kiadó will be available in the usual quality and range in Libri’s bookstore network and webshop after the acquisition.
