The Lechner Knowledge Center is developing an IT system for mapping and eliminating illegal landfills. The project is being implemented with a non-refundable European Union grant of 10.1 billion forints in the Digital Renewal Operational Program (DIMOP) under the Széchenyi Plan Plus program – the Lechner Knowledge Center announced to MTI on Tuesday.

During the development, a modern IT system will be created that combines artificial intelligence, aerial remote sensing and geospatial technologies It helps environmental protection and official work function more efficiently by combining them, they explained.

The new digital platform connects public reports, data collected based on satellite and aerial imagery, and information analyzed by artificial intelligence. On the interactive map interface, authorities and professionals can easily track the status of reports, analyze the characteristics of illegal dumps, and plan the necessary interventions.

The development of the system also includes the further development of the already operating HulladékRadar mobile application, with which anyone can report illegally deposited waste – they indicated.

They emphasized that thanks to the investment, environmental monitoring and enforcement of laws will become more efficient, while the need for human resources will be reduced. The project is closely linked to the professional activities of the Lechner Knowledge Center and supports the preservation of a sustainable environment at a national level.
