Sales in outside compansated the weak performance of Carrefour in France
Operating profit rose 3.4 percent to 3.29 billion euros from 3.18 billion euros a year ago. Sales rose 6.8 percent to 82.15 billion euros.Rising food prices combined with competitive price pressures
eroded profitability in France. Carrefour compensated its weaker
performance from its home market, France, with fast growth in Asia
and Latin America outpacing.
Carrefour is 'very satisfied' with the
performance of discount chains Ed and Dia, and has no plans to sell
them, chief executive Jose Luis Duran said in an interview with Le
Figaro. Carrefour has previously rejected speculation that it is
looking to sell the operations. In December, press reports claimed
the group wanted to raise cash from the sale since the global
financial crisis had cast doubt on its plans.
