The profitability of corn production also depends on the selection of hybrids and tillage
The success of Hungarian corn growers largely depends on the quantity and quality of the crop yield, which is influenced by the selection of the right hybrid and the correct application of the cultivation technology. One of the key factors is the choice of seed dressing technology, highlighted Gábor Zoltán, seed development engineer at Corteva Agriscience in Hungary.
According to the expert, when choosing hybrids, important aspects are yield security, stem strength, rapid water release, and outstanding adaptability. Farmers should also take into account the characteristics of the field to minimize the risks arising from weather variability.
Dressing technologies play an essential role in the success of corn cultivation. Seeds can be treated with fungicides, insecticides, biological dressings or bird repellents, which significantly reduces cultivation risks. Treated seeds promote the development of a stronger root system, which improves the connection between the soil and the plant, thereby resulting in faster and more homogeneous stand development.
Another advantage of dressing is that the pesticides only reach the surface of the seed, thus reducing the environmental impact on the soil and beneficial organisms. In addition, the amount of post-emergence pesticide application can be reduced, which contributes to optimizing farming costs and increasing productivity.
The basis of successful corn production is therefore precise hybrid selection and the use of modern dressing technologies. These steps can help achieve high yields and profitability, while reducing risks and environmental burden.
