The drought destroyed half of the corn and one third of the sunflower in Bács-Kiskun county
Soil preparation work significantly fell behind in Bács-Kiskun county, where drought caused serious damages in corn and sunflower crops – Pogonyi Tibor Agriculture Director of the county’s government office told MTI.
He added that the farmers essentially finished the harvest on the corn fields of 75 thousand hectares and on the sunflower fields of 43 thousand hectares in the county. The average yield is 2.9 tons per hectare in case of corn and 1.8 tons per hectare in case of sunflower. The average yield in case of both crops correspond to half the previous year’s average yield.
