István Nagy announced that the animal health situation was assessed at an extraordinary ministerial meeting on Thursday morning. He highlighted that foot-and-mouth disease has also appeared on another livestock farm in Győr-Moson-Sopron county, in Level. Accordingly, a 3-kilometer protection zone and a 10-kilometer observation zone have been designated, where restrictions according to the law apply. In relation to the latter, he mentioned as an example that in the districts of Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár, the movement of susceptible animals is prohibited until midnight on Saturday, as well as a grazing and hunting ban has come into effect, and zoos will remain closed. He also indicated that the liquidation of the animals will begin soon. Arrangements have also been made to dispose of the liquidated livestock near the farm.
István Nagy said that in this situation, it is also particularly important to reduce the number of backyard livestock
However, it is important to know that the local authority must be informed in advance of the date of the slaughter, as samples must be taken from the animals. The minister also indicated that holding any exhibitions or fairs related to susceptible animals will also be prohibited. István Nagy asked the managers of the farms to organize the isolation of their employees in order to prevent the spread of the virus in this way. “We will do everything we can to stop the spread of the infection, but this also requires the cooperation of livestock keepers,” the agriculture minister said. At the end of the video uploaded to his social media page, István Nagy thanked the work of animal health professionals involved in eliminating the epidemic, while reassuring everyone that the virus is not dangerous to humans.
