The government establishes an Animal Health Operational Unit
The Hungarian government is working with all its might, providing all financial and human resources, to eradicate foot-and-mouth disease and prevent the spread of this terrible virus – the Minister of Agriculture stressed in the program “Sunday News” on Kossuth Radio.
István Nagy reported that disinfection is underway on two farms that have already been exempted, and that the two other farms where the virus appeared in recent days are being exempted and vaccinated in order to minimize the virus release.
The animal health operational team has been set up so that they can integrate law enforcement and law enforcement organizations into the defense, quickly overcome all obstacles in front of them, and ensure effective measures that go beyond ministerial competence
– he added.
He pointed out: “the stake here is really whether we can protect the Hungarian livestock”.
Speaking about the tasks of the operational team, the minister gave as an example that the protection of the colonies against disaster tourism must be ensured by involving police forces, and also because it happened that the infected colony was entered at night and the disinfection pump was stolen.
In addition, the owners are assisted with up-to-date dialogue and information, but it is also the task of the affected local governments and the population to inform them, he added.
István Nagy highlighted that the clearance of the colonies entails enormous material damage and human pain,
the owners are losing their life’s work, even though “they complied with many times all the epidemiological regulations, they tried so hard to protect the colonies”, and yet it was not possible.
