KLM cancels 119 flights on Wednesday due to ground crew strike
Dutch airline KLM will cancel 119 flights on Wednesday due to a strike by ground staff demanding a pay increase, Dutch News, an English-language Dutch news portal, reported on Wednesday.
The strike, announced by the relevant unions, will last from 6 a.m. to noon at Schiphol International Airport near Amsterdam.
Some ground staff will not report to work on Wednesday morning because the unions say the current salaries of baggage handlers, check-in desk workers and employees who control aircraft on the runway are insufficient. They also believe that wage tensions are being caused by the fact that the company’s management recently agreed with employees working in other areas on a 2.25 percent pay increase spread over two years.
According to information published on the Dutch airline’s website, the vast majority of the affected flights are to European destinations. The departure times of 70 flights will also be changed during the day
– they were informed.
This is the third warning strike by the affected KLM ground staff in three weeks. If the airline does not respond to the demands in a meaningful way, the unions have announced another strike next Wednesday, expected to last eight hours – the news portal reported.
