Steps proposed to help small-scale producers
According to the Small-scale Producers Interest Group (KTÉ), the selling opportunities of small farmers have to be expanded, and for this several rules need to be changed. For instance KTÉ thinks small farmers should be allowed to use ingredients not produced by them. Another idea proposed by the group is the adoption of the Italian and French practice of establishing collective selling points for producers: a non-profit organisation that would sell the goods, and the farmer would get the money paid for them by buyers directly (there is no seller intermediary, so no VAT would be imposed on the otherwise non-taxable goods).
