Gardening can be part of everyday life again – Kertművelő, Nébih’s new gardening program, has been launched
A new attitude-shaping initiative of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), the Kertművelő program, has been launched, inviting the Hungarian population to rediscover the values and joy of plant production. The initiative provides practical knowledge about gardening in an understandable and inspiring form, while drawing attention to the importance of domestic seeds and the benefits of a sustainable lifestyle.

The basic idea of Kertművelő is that gardening is much more than a leisure activity. It helps us get closer to the origin of our food, strengthens the importance of self-sufficiency, and contributes to the transfer of knowledge and experience between generations. The importance of the topic and the demand for gardening are shown by a representative research conducted by Nébih in the summer of 2025 with a survey of 1,005 people, according to which more than 55% of the population currently grows their own food. Primarily vegetables (56%), and a similar proportion of fruit and herbs (41-41%). They primarily seek information about plant care and cultivation from friends and acquaintances (57%), but internet searches are in second place (54%).
The Gardener is aimed at both active hobby gardeners and those who are just starting to plant their first vegetable garden
One of the main messages of the program is that anyone can experience the experience of growing plants, even by caring for a single pot of herb, whether it is a rural vegetable garden or a city balcony. The initiative pays special attention to cultivation, plant health and the importance of plant protection, and also places emphasis on domestic seeds and plant varieties, as well as responsible, environmentally conscious cultivation practices. It presents the values of Hungarian gardening traditions and the importance of preserving genetic diversity. The professional basis of the published content is provided by Nébih experts, so they serve as a credible and reliable source.
The first articles are now available on the official website of Kertművelő
The program’s Facebook and Instagram pages also feature gardening tips, short videos and practical guides related to the current season, which present the most important steps of gardening, from sowing and transplanting to sustainable plant protection. Nébih aims to provide both beginner and advanced gardeners with knowledge that is easy to understand and can be applied in practice. To celebrate the launch of the program, an educational game awaits those interested on Kertművelő’s social media platforms. Players can take part in an exciting gardening investigation. With the program, Nébih aims to make gardening a natural part of the everyday lives of as many people as possible. The Kertművelő program aims to help with this with understandable knowledge and practical inspiration.
