Commercial chain would bound VAT increase on food producers
Several large commercial chains turned for help to the processors, asking for a discount of 4-6 percent because of the VAT increase.
According to Boródi Attila, Executive Chairman of the National Food Processors Association the message is clear; besides the steadily declining demand, trade is not able to sell the more expensive food therefore, the costs of the VAT increase should be payed by the food producers. According to Vámos György, the secretary of the National Trade Association, neither the traders nor the processors have reserve, to suffer the VAT increase without loss of income. Murányi László, Chief Executive Officer of Coop Hungary Ltd. said that the Coop Network, tryes to slow down the changes that will result inevitable price increases. Coop will gradually charge the surplus resulting from the tax increase on the purchasers. At the same time, they are attempting to make the agreement with the suppliers on the takeover of a part of the increased tax – reports Népszabadság Online.
