The interest of the farmers of the Carpathian Basin is cooperation
The fall regional meeting of the Hungarian Farmers’ Conciliation Forum (KEF) of the Carpathian Basin was held in Pula, Croatia, at which delegates from 9 Carpathian Basin regions represented Hungarian farmers and farmers’ organizations abroad. The Ministry of Agriculture, as KEF’s partner organization, was represented at the Forum by Oszkár Ökrös, Deputy State Secretary responsible for international relations.
The main mission of KEF is to invigorate and institutionalize relations between Hungarian business organizations in the Carpathian Basin involved in rural development, and to coordinate their activities. The forum, established in 2013, is chaired by Balázs Győrffy, the president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy. The participants in the forum in Pula listened to the professional presentations related to the new Common Agricultural Policy, but also discussed the challenges caused by war and climate change, which directly affect farmers and which can only be dealt with in alliance with each other – pointed out Deputy State Secretary Oszkár Ökrös, who praised the KEF’s activities, which, as he said, serve the prosperity of Hungarian farmers abroad in their homeland, similarly to the Carpathian Basin Farmers Program coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture. If the Hungarian farmer from Herzegszőlős, Topolya, Zselizi, Nagydobronyi, Csente, Mezőség, Székelyföld, Partium receives support to cultivate the land of his ancestors, ensuring income and livelihood for his family, and in addition he can also make a profit and sell his crops and products in an expanded market, then he will be happy to stay in his homeland, and the chances of his children not setting off to the wider world in the hope of a more secure future will increase, emphasized the deputy state secretary.
