For the first time since the outbreak, food purchases by the Italian population have fallen
For the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in February, public spending on food in Italy fell compared to a year earlier, according to a report by the agricultural trade organization Coldiretti.
In February, the population spent 5.5 percent less on buying food than a year before, according to a report by Coldiretti based on data from the Istat statistical office. “The crisis is already beginning to have an impact on the population’s most important food purchases,” the organization said in a report.
