Producers paid less for meat
The Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) continuously monitors and publishes world trends in poultry and fruit/vegetable products. Their last report reveals that the production price of domestic pork fell by 12 percent to HUF 356/kg on week 43, compared to the same period in 2008. For slaughter beef, processors paid HUF 475/kg at the end of November, 6 percent less than in the previous month. Compared to October 2008, poultry production prices were down 2 percent, but poultry meat sales augmented by 15 percent; turkey production prices were down 4 percent and domestic turkey meat sales fell by 6 percent in October. In the same period, egg sales decreased by 1 percent, while egg production prices increased by 12 percent.
