The Hunguest Hotels hotel chain, which belongs to OPUS GLOBAL, is purchasing 8,000 square meters of development land in Bükfürdő and selling its two mountain hotels in Austria, the company informed MTI on Wednesday.

According to their announcement, the steps fit well with Hunguest Hotels’ portfolio cleaning strategy launched in 2021, which aims to focus the company’s resources on purchasing and developing hotels with wellness or spa connections and conference services that offer the greatest guest experience and growth potential, and on further enhancing the guest experience.

With the development of Hunguest Bük, the company further strengthens its position in the wellness and conference market in Western Hungary – emphasized Ádám Détári-Szabó, CEO of Hunguest Hotels, in the announcement.

Hunguest Hotels has strengthened its market position with several domestic acquisitions in recent years: in 2022 it purchased Hotel Eger & Park, in 2023 Hotel Aquarellt in Cegléd, and in 2024 Andrássy Kúria & Spa and the operating rights of the Hotel Benedict in Kőszeg, and further acquisitions are currently in the preparation phase – they wrote.

The company announced on the Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT) website that it had sold its two seasonally operating hotels in Heiligenblut am Grossglockner, Carinthia, without a spa connection, and would use the proceeds from the sale to finance further developments and acquisitions.

Hunguest Hotels, which operates 20 hotels and nearly 3,500 rooms, implemented Hungary’s largest hotel renovation project between 2020 and 2024, with the development of approximately 2,000 rooms – they reminded the in a statement.

Hilaris Hotel, which acquired the two Austrian hotels, announced in a statement sent to MTI that the 121-room Sporthotel and the 61-room Landhotel Post will open their doors as members of the hotel chain from December 2025 at the foot of Austria’s highest mountain, at 1,300 meters.

With the acquisition, the company’s Austrian portfolio now includes seven hotels and nearly 500 rooms, making it one of the Hungarian-owned chains operating the most hotels in the country.

The number of Hilaris Hotels interests in Austria and Hungary, founded in 2023, currently stands at 16, which will be expanded with two new units next spring, they wrote.
