HP Enterprise quarterly profit falls, revenue rises
The American Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), a manufacturer of computer servers, networking equipment and data storage systems, reported a 29 percent drop in quarterly profit, while revenue rose 18 percent, the company said on its website.
In the first fiscal quarter ended January 31, after-tax profit fell to $423 million, or 31 cents per share, compared with $598 million, or 44 cents per share, a year earlier.
Earnings per share excluding one-time items were 65 cents, exceeding the 59 cents in the average analyst expectations.
HPE’s quarterly revenue increased from $7.85 billion to $9.3 billion, slightly below the market’s expectation of $9.35 billion.
The revenue of the cloud and artificial intelligence division (servers, data storage, financial services) decreased by 2.7 percent to $6.33 billion, within which the revenue of the largest, server segment, also fell by 2.7 percent to $4.23 billion. Networking equipment revenue rose 151.5 percent to $2.71 billion.
HPE expects adjusted earnings of 51 cents to 55 cents per share and revenue of $9.6 billion to $10 billion for the current quarter. Analysts’ average expectations are for adjusted earnings of 53 cents per share and revenue of $9.57 billion.
