The Croatian government would expand the price cap on another commodity
The Croatian government will extend the price cap to more goods by the end of the month due to the extent of the currency collapse, Economy Minister Ante Susnjar said on Thursday after talks with representatives of the largest Croatian retail chains.
He added that the measures are being taken to help vulnerable groups.
The Croatian government limited the prices of some basic foodstuffs in the spring of 2023, and has extended the measure several times.
The price cap affects 30 goods, including sunflower oil, milk, flour, sugar, whole chicken, minced pork, milk chocolate, yogurt, Gouda cheese, rice, spaghetti pasta, eggs, as well as potatoes, carrots and beans. But the prices of toilet paper, shower gel, toothpaste, diapers and sanitary napkins have also been limited.
According to the minister, the new list will include more healthy foods than the old one, and bread will also be included. It concerns fifty goods that citizens need every day, and prices have risen, he pointed out.
He reminded that energy prices have been kept lower all along to help families, but inflation is still very high.
