EP’s Agricultural Committee was opposed to the ban on foie gras
The European Parliament's Agriculture and Rural Development Committee accepted the 2012-2015 EU animal welfare strategy report, but rejected the proposal to ban foie gras – announced Glattfelder Béla MEP (Fidesz) on Wednesday.
“The foie gras is a traditional agricultural product. Therefore, it is protected by the Lisbon Treaty. The foie gras is Hungary’s important export product. The sector provides a livelihood for thousands of people living in mostly disadvantaged circumstances. We hope that we will be able to protect the Hungarian interests at the plenary vote” – said Glattfelder Béla. (MTI)
