The domestic egg production covers only the three-quarters of the demand
A year ago, no one expected that the European Commission will carry out a decision within two months to ban the use of conventional cages – was said at the press conference of the Poultry Product Council that was held on the occasion of the World Egg Day.
The majority of EU producers did not think that such a decision would be born, since the EU surveys showed that in mid-2011, 32.0 percent, ie 353 million hens were kept in conventional cages.
At the end of December 2011, 104 sites (from 200 to 220 thousand hen cages), could be found in Hungary, that could not meet the legal requirements. After the first of January, these sites were closed by the MgSzH (NÉBIH).
