The price of both domestic and imported strawberries has increased
According to Eurostat data, in recent years, 5–7.7 thousand tons of strawberries have been harvested annually in Hungary. Experts expected the harvest of strawberries grown in open fields to begin around May 10–15 this year. The April frosts damaged the strawberries grown in open fields, but the stands under plastic tents were not damaged.

The imported product was sold at a wholesale price of 2758 forints/kilogram in the 4th–15th weeks until the Hungarian strawberries entered the market. The imported strawberries remained in the supply in parallel with the Hungarian product, and their wholesale price (1671 forints/kilogram) was 13 percent higher on average in the 15th–19th weeks than in the same period of the previous year. This year, domestic strawberries entered the Budapest Wholesale Market at a producer price of 3,900 forints/kilogram in the 15th week, and the producer price increased by 63 percent in the average of weeks 15–19 (3,467 forints/kilogram) compared to the average price of the same period last year.
