GVH welcomes the voluntary price reduction
Voluntary price reductions are good for families and stimulate competition, the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the information, the GVH is monitoring the development of anti-competitive cooperation between market players. The national competition authority is currently conducting several procedures against food retail companies on suspicion of prohibited price fixing and misleading advertising, it was explained.
It was emphasized that the GVH’s fundamental tasks include competition advocacy, within the framework of which the national competition authority uses the tools at its disposal to influence state decisions in the interests of competition.
It was recalled:
In March 2023, Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the GVH, initiated the creation of an online price monitoring system with the government, based on the experiences of accelerated sector investigations carried out in the food sector and international examples, which will soon be expanded to include new product categories.
The announcement stated that the national competition authority, in order to protect Hungarian consumers – while also keeping in mind the interests of domestic businesses – continuously monitors market developments in individual product chains, such as those in the case of eggs or dairy products.
The GVH is currently conducting several competition supervision proceedings against food retail businesses on suspicion of prohibited price fixing and misleading advertising to consumers.
