The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) fined the food ordering portal Foodora more than 35 million forints for deceiving consumers
Foodora deceived consumers, so the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) imposed a fine of more than 35 million forints on the operator of the food ordering portal – the authority announced in a statement on Friday.
Foodora Hungary indicated that they comply with the GVH’s decision, but do not agree with its content.
According to the GVH’s statement, the company promised a two thousand forint discount and free shipping in a 2023 autumn promotion, but did not state that this only applied to orders over six thousand forints. The company delayed the GVH’s procedure, so in addition to the competition supervision fine, the GVH’s Competition Council imposed a procedural fine of 20 million forints, which the company has already paid.
The GVH warned: the national competition authority also monitors the commercial activities of food delivery companies.
According to the authority’s investigation, the company did not properly inform consumers about the charging of the system usage fee between June 14-20, 2024. Based on all this, the Competition Council of the GVH – taking into account the cost of the examined advertising campaign – imposed a total fine of 35.2 million forints on the company.
All this draws the attention of the enterprises subject to the procedure to the fact that they must fulfill their data provision obligation accurately and within the deadline – the GVH emphasized.
