The GVH formulated six proposals in order to reduce the price of durable foods
The Economic Competition Authority (GVH) concluded its accelerated sectoral investigation on the durable food market, and on the basis of this, it formulated six proposals that can contribute to more effective competition and, through this, to lower prices, the GVH told MTI on Monday.
After milk and dairy products, the agency launched an investigation on the durable food market at the beginning of February, after the consumer prices of many durable foods rose significantly and periodic shortages arose.
Within a short period of time, the GVH conducted several coordinated on-site researches across the country at companies and food retailers that produce key canned and frozen vegetable products. The authority collected information on the structure of the affected market, price developments, sales turnover and sales revenues.
During the investigation, the value chain of canned and frozen vegetables and fruits was reviewed, focusing primarily on 12 specific products – among others, sweet cucumbers, crumbled sweet corn, canned chickpeas, chili beans, cherry preserves, quick-frozen green peas, Mexican vegetable mix, planed squash, French fries and concentrated tomatoes.
