The GVH paid a special attention to consumer protection in 2014
The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) this year has focused on consumer protection, so many consumer groups had to be fined more occasions. In order to increase consumer awareness, the authority opened Economic Competitiveness Advisory offices in five other cities – Juhász Miklós, President told MTI.
The GVH launched about 120 competition supervision proceedings this year and roughly closed down the same number of cases. This year the consumer protection cases gave the half of all procedures again. About 30 percent of the closed cases were related to merger control, the rest were the classic antitrust cases – cartels relating or the abuse of a dominant position. The Competition Council imposed fines of 7 billion HUF this year – the President described the data. (MTI)
