A third of farm transfer applications were submitted by farmers with the free help of NAK

A total of 1,730 applications were submitted by farmers nationwide to support farm transfer cooperation, every third of them with the free assistance of rural economist advisors from the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK). In the event of a positive assessment, NAK also provides assistance in submitting payment applications and in the administration of project closure.

The farming community is aging throughout Europe, and it is now urgent to involve young people in the management of businesses. The Act on the Transfer of Agricultural Farms, prepared jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), and the Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Circles and Farmers’ Cooperatives (MAGOSZ), entered into force in 2023. It helps the generational change that is crucial for the future of agriculture and can thus lay the foundation for the development of Hungarian agriculture in the long term. The Act on the Transfer of Agricultural Farms provides an opportunity for older farmers to transfer all assets related to their farms (land, other real estate, machinery, property rights, company shares) to the younger generation in a single farm transfer contract.

The application for the transferors of farms, entitled “Support for Farm Transfer Cooperation”, was open to submission between August 28 and September 24, and provides financial support for the conclusion of the farm transfer contract and the successful transfer of the farm. The amount of the support depends on the size of the transferred farm, varying between 4 and 20 million forints.

A total of 1,730 applications were submitted by farmers nationwide, 33 percent of which, 564 applications, were submitted with the free help of NAK rural economist advisors. In Fejér, Komárom-Esztergom, Vas and Zala counties, more than half of the applications were submitted by producers with the assistance of chambers. NAK’s task did not end with the submission of the applications; in case of a positive assessment, the rural economists also submit payment requests and provide assistance in the administration of project closure. The next call for proposals to support generational renewal, entitled “Generation Renewal as a Farm Transferee”, will open on November 20, 2025. Those farm transferees who have a farm transfer contract approved by the government office can apply for this. The amount of support in this case can also be between 4 and 20 million forints, depending on the size of the transferred farm.
