Farmers help animal shelters with straw donations
With the coordination of NAK and Péter Ovádi, the government commissioner responsible for animal protection, farmers nationwide are helping homeless animals living in domestic animal shelters with straw donations.
Due to the persistent cold weather, many animal shelters nationwide are facing the problem of how to ensure the most suitable conditions for the animals living there. Straw is also suitable for keeping homeless animals warm in shelters even in the freezing, record cold weather.
Péter Ovádi, the government commissioner responsible for the development and implementation of the animal protection action plan, met with Zsolt Papp, the president of the National Chamber of Agriculture and Food (NAK), regarding the problem. The chamber, which has a nationwide network and is in direct contact with farmers, immediately asked farmers if they had the opportunity to offer straw to shelters. Several offers were received within a day, and the chamber is coordinating with the government commission responsible for animal protection, which also assesses the needs, and the Our Common Cause Animal Protection Foundation, to ensure that the offers reach the shelters concerned as soon as possible.
Animal protection is our common cause, and Hungarian farmers have repeatedly demonstrated their selflessness and the power of their unity. This case is no different: the farmers are helping this time too, contributing to the proper care of the small animals in the shelters.
