Farmers have no money to switch for the alternative breeding of laying hens
Farmers are not strong enough to move to alternative hatchery. The change would require a huge investment within a short period of time, as 90 percent of Hungarian production comes from cage keeping – the vice president of the Hungarian Association of Egg Breeders and Egg Producers told M1 news channel on Wednesday.
Pákozd Gergely complained that no professional consultation had taken place before the announcement that the supermarket chains are stopping the sale of cage eggs in a short time. Their decision was explained by the fact that free keeping is more sustainable, it is less burden to the environment, but there is still a debate about this, not just in the egg sector, but in the whole agriculture – the vice president added.
