István Nagy urged the protection of farmers in Luxembourg
Agriculture Minister István Nagy urged the protection of farmers and the creation of predictable market conditions on Monday in Luxembourg, prior to the meeting of the agriculture ministers of the European Union member states.
The head of the ministry told the journalists that they are discussing the future of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), and expressed hope that a position will be reached during the meeting, which will help the CAP to be farmer-centered, competitive, crisis-resistant, sustainable and knowledge-based after 2027. As he said, at the meeting they will try to find joint solutions to the challenges affecting the food chain, among which he highlighted animal and plant diseases among others. He also informed that the participating ministers will discuss the establishment of fishing quotas for the Baltic countries. “We see the problems in the sea fish stocks, but at the same time we have to find a solution that takes into account the economic, social and social situation of the inhabitants of the coastal countries,” he declared. István Nagy said that, in addition to the usual agendas, the member countries have also included ten additional agendas, so we will discuss, among other things, the reduction of cormorants and the hunting of seals.
