The government has formed an alliance with farmers in order to protect Hungarian agriculture, said András Tállai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the joint farmers’ forum in Miskolc, organized by the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and the Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Cooperatives and Farmers’ Cooperatives (MAGOSZ).

András Tállai highlighted at the event that the strategic cooperation established with NAK and MAGOSZ is the result of which, in the past decade, Hungarian agricultural output has increased by 29 percent, its profitability has more than doubled, and the number of farmers who have obtained the right to use state land has increased fifteenfold. Compared to the period before 2010, fifteen times more farmers can now farm on state land. The State Secretary emphasized that in the Rural Development Program, which was concluded in 2025, almost 3,000 billion forints were available for agricultural and rural development purposes between 2014 and 2025, within the framework of which approximately 394 thousand applications were supported. He added that the government also paid special attention to strengthening the food industry, with 1,300 food processing plants receiving a total of more than 310 billion forints in support.

Parallel to the conclusion of the Rural Development Program, the implementation of the CAP Strategic Plan also began in 2024

The resources of this will exceed 5,650 billion forints by 2027, of which 55 percent, approximately 3,150 billion forints, will go to agricultural and rural development purposes. The State Secretary also drew attention to the fact that the government firmly stands by Hungarian farmers. Hungary’s food supply cannot be part of political games. The Mercosur agreement could endanger the export markets of domestic agricultural and food products, and it should not be allowed that Ukrainian imports arriving in the European Union remain disproportionately in the border country, thereby causing serious damage to Hungarian producers. Hungarian farmers are not alone, the national government protects their interests and ensures the subsidies they are entitled to. The results achieved must be preserved and Hungarian agriculture must be further strengthened together in the future, he added. Szabolcs Szigeti, Deputy State Secretary responsible for the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy, highlighted in relation to agricultural subsidies that the Ministry of Agriculture has recently accelerated payments, the aim is that all eligible applicants will receive the subsidy by March 31 within the framework of the single application. Farmers will thus receive a total of more than 1,500 billion forints of funds, which also include area-based and animal-based subsidies. The acceleration of investments also continues within the framework of the CAP, the amount of developments affected by the commitment has already exceeded 1,000 billion forints nationwide, of which 34.5 billion forints of investments can be implemented in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County – the Deputy State Secretary underlined.
