World Cereal Day is a good time to pay attention to our fiber consumption
A balanced breakfast is not only delicious and filling, but also an important element of adequate daily fiber intake, which supports the health of the digestive system and can reduce the chance of developing chronic diseases.
Despite this, the average daily fiber intake of Hungarian adults and children does not reach the amount corresponding to professional recommendations. March 7 is World Cereal Day, and dietitians draw attention to the benefits of consuming products made from whole grains, and they also provide advice on how to make your daily diet more fiber-rich.
The dietary fiber intake of the Hungarian population falls well short of the professional recommendations, according to which adults should consume at least 25-30 grams of fiber per day. Incorrect eating habits already appear in childhood, according to Nestlé Hungária’s nationwide, representative research, the fiber intake of nearly a third of elementary school children does not reach 70 percent of the recommendation. Only 43 percent of the children participating in the survey consume whole grains, and their fruit and vegetable intake is barely more than half of the daily recommendation of 400 grams.
