Among fresh meats, chicken breast, pork leg and various minced meats are the most popular at Lidl

Lidl Hungary prioritizes products from Hungarian meat suppliers, which is also supported by the fact that it sells nearly 70 thousand tons of Hungarian fresh meat in its stores annually. Among the fresh meats, chicken breast, pork leg and various minced meats are the most popular among customers.

On average, we consume 1.3 kg of poultry, pork and beef per person per week in Hungary, according to the 2023 data of the Central Statistical Office, which means 36.3 kg of poultry, 29.3 kg of pork and 3.1 kg of beef and veal per person per year. Lidl offers an extremely wide range of fresh meat for this: with the cooperation of the discount chain, around 100 types of Hungarian fresh meat are available in Lidl stores, from the most popular poultry products to game meats. In the case of poultry products, i.e. fresh chicken, duck and turkey meat, Hungarian customers can choose from 41 types of quality products, while the other types of meat – pork, beef and all other fresh meat – offer 56 types of products.

Chicken breast is the favorite meat of Hungarians

Among fresh meats from Hungarian suppliers, fresh poultry meat sales exceeded 45,000 tons in 2024, and chicken breast is the biggest favorite of customers. It is a good indication of domestic meat consumption habits that, compared to this, less of all other fresh meats combined are sold in Lidl stores annually. The most popular of these are pork legs and minced meat, of which a total of 13,000 tons are sold annually.

New packaging for excellent Hungarian meat

In the coming weeks, Lidl’s own-brand Húsfarm product line, consisting of 75 products, will be renewed on the shelves. 100 percent of the newly packaged Húsfarm products come from Hungarian suppliers, which, in addition to providing high quality and safety for customers, is also an important factor in supporting Hungarian producers and the domestic economy. The freshness of domestic, quality meat is also ensured by the fact that it is delivered to the central warehouse within 24 hours of cutting. In addition, special, protective gas and vacuum packaging also greatly contributes to preserving freshness and hygiene, and to a longer shelf life.
