Intermarché Expands Supplier Partnerships, Launches Producer Platform
French retailer Intermarché has signed new contracts with local producers across six additional supply chains and launched a platform dedicated to connecting them with retail stores.
Recently, Intermarché and its parent organisation Groupement Mousquetaires unveiled new three-year multi-party contracts as part of their commitment to supporting French agriculture.
Thierry Cotillard, president of the Groupement Mousquetaires, commented, “Contractual agreements are now one of the most effective ways to ensure economic stability, guarantee French origin, and meet consumer expectations.”
Expanding Local Range
The contracts feature guaranteed volumes and cover a total of 4,500 tonnes of French fries, 1,500 tonnes of spelt, 350 tonnes of Morbier cheese, 220 tonnes of green beans, 500 tonnes of mushrooms, and one million heads of iceberg lettuce.
In 2025, the group signed supplier contracts with producers of pears, Reblochon cheese and junior beef, covering a volume of 4,500 tonnes of pears and 100 tonnes of Reblochon, which increased to 225 tonnes in 2026.
The group also aims to increase the number of partner producers participating in its junior beef programme to 100 by the end of 2026 and 200 by 2029.
A further 20-year contract between the Mousquetaires Group, Solarys, and the Conserve Gard cooperative aims to support the long-term sustainability of French orchards.
‘Local Producers’ Platform
Alongside the new contracts, Intermarché has launched a platform designed to connect local producers with participating retail stores, as part of its ‘Local Producers’ initiative.
Producers can register via the platform and connect with stores located within a 70-kilometre radius.
The group introduced the initiative in 2020 and has since partnered with 15,000 local producers across 1,200 stores.
As part of its strategy to shorten supply chains, Intermarché aims to expand the initiative in future and reach 20,000 producers by 2027.
Future Strategies
The group noted that close partnerships with local producers support French agriculture and allow it to anticipate potential challenges thereto.
Further expansion into additional produce categories, including fruit and vegetables, is under consideration for 2027.
In addition, the retailer has noted plans for further partner contracts for products such as goat’s cheese, Saint-Nectaire cheese, turkey and chicken.
François-Xavier Trillot, Mousquetaires’ business leader in charge of the ‘Local Producers’ initiative, commented, “Our objective is ambitious, but reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and expertise.”
