In the middle of the main season, tourism also performs well nationally
From the beginning of the summer to the middle of July, nearly 2.7 million guests and more than 6.7 million guest nights were registered at Hungarian accommodations. The number of guests increased by 3%, and the number of guest nights was also above the value measured in the middle of last year’s main season. So far, foreigners have already spent 16% more nights and spent 28% more here than at this time last year. And by the end of August, another 3.6 million night reservations can be seen in the National Tourist Information Center, more than two-thirds of them – 2.7 million – are for rural accommodations.
In June, the number of guests resting in Hungary reached 1.6 million, which exceeded the results of June of the previous year by almost 4%. And the 4 million guest nights spent were close to last year’s figures. The number of 900,000 domestic guests in June already exceeded the record year of 2019 in domestic accommodation by 2%, and the 2.2 million guest nights they spent reached the pre-epidemic level. Compared to last year, we welcomed nearly 700,000 foreign tourists by a quarter, and the number of guest nights thus exceeded the value measured in June 2022 by 14%.
The continuation of the first half of the summer season is encouraging. According to the data of the National Tourist Information Center, the number of guest nights measured from the beginning of June to the middle of July was above last year’s level. At the halfway point of the summer, slightly fewer domestic guests have been resting in the accommodation facilities, which was counterbalanced by the onslaught of foreign tourists. 22% more people arrived from abroad than in the same period of 2022, so domestic accommodations have been able to welcome nearly 3% more guests this summer. The number of one-day visitors also showed an outstanding increase of 33%.
