Corn prices increase in the heat

Due to the hot days, maize and sunflower have significantly deteriorated in recent days. The assessment of damages has already started. The great drought and the almost African heat destroyed or can destroy the crop in several regions. It is already certain that the heat and the lack of rainfall can irreversibly damage the corn sown on 1.260 million hectares.

The current outlook of the sunflower crop is between weak and moderate. The situation is even more worse in the low-habitat and late sowed areas. This is bad news for livestock farmers, as the lower yield may increase the prices.

According to the most recent estimates, the average yield is expected only around 3.4 to 3.5 tons per hectare. That is 200 kilos per hectares lower than the June projection. Compared to last year's 4.03 million tons, this year only 3.7 to 3.8 million tons of wheat crop is expected in Hungary. (by our colleague)
