Fonyódi Ásványvíz Kft. is not discontinuing the mineral water brand, it is only temporarily suspending production
Fonyódi Ásványvíz Kft. has temporarily suspended its production activities as of February 1, 2024. Due to changes in the external market, economic and regulatory environment, the company’s management decided on the temporary shutdown after a long consideration. In relation to the regulatory environment, the change affecting the entire mineral water bottling market is the European Union regulation that will enter into force on January 1, 2025, according to which companies distributing plastic beverage packaging must use 30% recycled raw materials during the production of bottles. The machine lines operated in the bottling plant of Fonyódi Ásványíz Kft. were installed about 25 years ago, these equipments are not suitable for the use of recycled plastic raw materials to such an extent.
However, it is important that Fonyódi Ásványvíz Kft. is not discontinuing the mineral water brand, it is only temporarily suspending production, so that after the reorganization, by renewing the production line, it can restart production in a more marketable form, ensuring the conditions for long-term sustainable operation from both a business and environmental point of view.
The company’s owners are committed to restarting production as soon as possible, modernizing production technology, and renewing the brand. With this goal in mind, the planning of the investment aimed at renewing the production technology of the bottling plant has already begun. According to preliminary calculations, a development worth nearly 10 million euros will be realized at the site, however, the exact schedule of the investment has not yet been finalized, it depends on the development of the external market environment, as well as the commitment deadlines of the production technology suppliers.
