The Consumer Protection Authority blocked a website advertising fake fat-busting serums
Due to misleading names and information, the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) has banned the distribution of Kalóriakirály dietary supplement products and obliged the domain service provider to suspend access to content related to the products offered for sale on the website https://varhegyirichard.hu – the authority told MTI on Wednesday.
According to the information, based on a public interest report, the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority examined the dietary supplement products distributed under the name Kalóriakirály, which are typically advertised on social media by the food entrepreneur based in England responsible for the distribution. The authority found that the examined dietary supplements were distributed with misleading information regarding their essential properties, which constitutes food adulteration under the current Hungarian legislation.
The names of the affected products are: Calorie King Fat Destroying Serum Dietary Supplement Capsule with L-Carnitine, Chromium and Plant Extracts, 16.2 grams, Calorie King Hunger Suppressing Elixir Dietary Supplement Capsule with Plant Extracts, net weight: 13.9 grams/30 capsules, Calorie King Fat Destroying Extra 37.67 percent more active ingredients dietary supplement capsule with L-Carnitine, Chromium and Plant Extracts, 16.05 grams/30 capsules – the NKFH announced.
The experts determined that none of the ingredients in the product family called “Fat Destroying Serum” and “Fat Destroying Extra” dietary supplements have been proven to have the same effect or promote weight loss in the amount and dosage form present in the product as their name and information. Based on its ingredients, the “Hunger Suppressant Elixir” is also unable to produce the expected effect. Based on what has been described, the product names are also infringing, since they are also considered health claims, but the beneficial effect has not been proven – the announcement highlighted.
The labeling of the products is not suitable for consumers to learn about the real amount of their herbal ingredients. In the case of the “Fat-Killing Products”, the consumer groups who should avoid the product were not indicated. It would be necessary to draw attention to the Garcinia cambogia extract contained in the serum, given the scientific literature data.
