Based on employment data, Hungary is among the leaders in Europe
According to the data of the Central Statistical Office, in February 2025, nearly 4.7 million people worked in our country. The number of employed people remains outstanding, while the unemployment rate is still below the EU average, and the number of registered job seekers has not been this low since the change of regime – this is how Sándor Czomba, the State Secretary responsible for employment policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), assessed the latest labor market data in his statement on Friday.

He emphasized that high employment is one of the pillars of the Hungarian economy, which is also strengthened by the government’s targeted measures.
Compared to 2010, there are already 1 million more people working, while the average wage has increased more than 3 times and the minimum wage has increased 4 times. Current labor market trends show that more and more previously inactive workers are finding employment, to which employment policy programs also contribute significantly.
As he noted, the Hungarian labor market also shows outstanding results at the European level. The employment rate of the 20-64 age group has been continuously increasing since 2010, thanks to which Hungary ranks 6th in the EU in terms of employment indicators for both men and women.
In the last quarter of 2024, the employment rate for men increased to 84.8 percent and for women to 77.1 percent, significantly exceeding the EU average. The Hungarian employment rate reached 81 percent, compared to the 75.9 percent average for the 27 EU member states, while the domestic unemployment rate of 4.4 percent remains one of the lowest in Europe.
