Nébih warns to the dangers of surface-treated fruits
A high attention should be paid when using the peel of citrus fruits, because surface treatment is carried out on fruits imported to Hungary from far away locations, so the crust may be unsuitable for consumption – warns the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih).
The agency said in a statement that Christmas cakes arealmost unimaginable without citrus, ut only a few people know, that these fruits could be turn sour during the 2-3 days of transportation if a surface treatment would not be carried out after harvesting and would not be treated with surface dehydration inhibiting protective layer.
