The manufacturing industry is struggling with the biggest labor shortage
Although the situation has improved compared to a year earlier, according to the data of the Central Statistical Office, at the end of the second quarter of this year, there were still around 80,000 vacancies in Hungary. The manufacturing industry leads the way with 18,000 unfilled positions, but there is also a great need for product and electrical equipment assemblers, cleaners and support workers. Companies recruit for certain areas for months at a time, which is why more and more people use the help of labor agencies and use the opportunity of international recruitment.
In Hungary, many industries continue to struggle with labor shortages, especially in jobs that do not require a diploma. Based on the short-term labor market forecast published in 2022 by the National Employment Service and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Economic and Entrepreneurship Research Institute, the first three positions in 2023 are other product assembler, electrical equipment assembler, and institutional cleaner and support jobs they finished ahead of people like software developers or shop assistants. In addition, skilled manual workers such as forklift drivers, welders or electricians are in particularly high demand.
Based on the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) for the second quarter of this year, there were about 80,000 vacant positions waiting to be filled, which shows an improvement compared to a year earlier, as their number was close to 100,000 then. When looking at vacant positions, the manufacturing industry takes a towering lead, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the available positions with its more than 18,000 vacancies.
